How to Batch Convert HEIC to JPG (Mac, Windows, Online)

Converting one HEIC photo is easy. Converting 600 from a holiday is a different job — you want something fast, that keeps the dates and file names, and doesn’t make you click “Save” 600 times. These are the best ways to batch convert HEIC to JPG on every platform.

Online: drop them all into your browser

Works on Mac, Windows, Linux, Chromebook, iPhone and Android.

  1. Open the HEIC to JPG converter.
  2. Select all your HEIC files (Ctrl/Cmd-A in the file picker) or drag the whole selection onto the page.
  3. Wait while they convert — several at a time on computers.
  4. Click Download all as ZIP.

Because ConvertHEICto converts on your own device, there’s no upload queue, no file-count limit and no privacy concern with personal photos. Files keep their names (IMG_1234.HEIC → IMG_1234.jpg), their date taken, and their correct rotation. Very large batches on a phone are best done in groups of around 50.

Mac: Finder’s Convert Image

  1. Select all the HEIC files in Finder.
  2. Right-click → Quick Actions → Convert Image.
  3. Choose JPEG, Actual Size, and click Convert to JPEG.

Done — the JPGs appear alongside the originals. Preview’s Export Selected Images and the sips command are good alternatives; all are explained in How to convert HEIC to JPG on Mac.

Mac command line (thousands of files)

mkdir -p jpg
for f in *.HEIC *.heic; do
  [ -e "$f" ] || continue
  sips -s format jpeg -s formatOptions 90 "$f" --out "jpg/${f%.*}.jpg"
done

Windows: three ways to convert multiple HEIC files

Windows’ Paint and Photos only handle one file at a time, so for bulk work use one of these:

  1. Browser converter — the online method above. No installs.

  2. ImageMagick — install it, open a terminal in the folder and run:

magick mogrify -format jpg -quality 90 *.heic
  3. A right-click converter such as CopyTrans HEIC, which adds “Convert to JPEG” to File Explorer for a selection of files. We review it in CopyTrans HEIC for Windows: is it safe?

iPhone: convert in bulk on the phone

  • Files app: save the photos to Files, tap … → Select, choose all, then … → Convert Image → JPEG.
  • Safari: open the converter, pick many photos at once, then Save / Share → Save Images.

See How to convert HEIC to JPG on iPhone for step-by-step instructions for each menu.

Tips for large batches

  • Keep the originals until you’ve checked the JPGs.
  • Pick the right quality once. 85 is ideal for sharing; 92+ for printing.
  • Resize if the photos are going online. Setting a maximum of 2048 px makes files much smaller.
  • Watch for duplicates. iPhones restart numbering at IMG_0001 after 9999 photos. ConvertHEICto renames duplicates inside the ZIP so nothing is overwritten.
  • Need another format? The same batch workflow works for PNG, WebP and PDF — including combining all photos into a single PDF.
